Chelsea are the FIFA Club World Cup Champions after beating Palmeiras by 2-1 in the final following a Kai Havertz’s late penalty which brought home Chelsea’s first Club World Cup trophy as manager Thomas Tuchel adds to his trophy haul with the Blues.
The European Champions were held till the eleventh hour before a late goal from Kai Harvetz from the penalty spot gave them a 2-1 last gasp victory, granting them the honour of recognition as world champions at club level. The victory means Chelsea have now joined the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool as the only English clubs to have lifted the Club World Cup trophy.
Chelsea fought almost beyond themselves to shake off the threats of a determined Palmeiras in the Mohammed Bin Zayed stadium, Saudi Arabia to lift that one trophy they hadn’t won ever before after 120+7 minutes of packed soccer action.
The Blues go back to London as the only club in London to have lifted this accolade, a pride for the ultimate bragging rights for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
