Asante Kotoko trainer, Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum has outlined conditions under which he would gladly accept to be the head coach of the Ghana senior men’s national football team, the Black Stars, responding to a suggestion made by Board Member of Accra Hearts of Oak and former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe.
Former President of the GFA Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, who is currently a Member of Accra Hearts of Oak Board of Directors, tipped Dr Prosper Ogum as the right man to lead the Black Stars, giving pleasing notices of the former WAFA trainer’s exploits at Asante Kotoko. Dr Nyaho heaped praises on Dr Ogum in a recent interview with GTV Sports+, commenting on the recent appointment of former Ghana international Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars in interim capacity.
“I will suggest that we pick a local coach in the person of Dr Prosper Ogum, the trainer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko now”, Dr Nyaho told GTV Sports+ on Saving Our Passion. “I have studied that man carefully and he’s brought a lot of life into Kotoko, and if we want really to get somewhere we should give that gentleman the power and I can tell you that he will give us a team we shall be surprised of”, he recommended on Thursday.
In a post match interview on Saturday following Asante Kotoko’s 3-1 win over Accra Lions at the Baba Yara sports stadium, coach Prosper Ogum was quizzed about his take on the suggestion by Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, and his reaction was positive.
“I think probably he sat from afar and he seeing what I’m doing, per his astuteness…I mean we know him to be following football over decades, I mean so many years as a seasoned football administrator. So I think per his experience and what he is seeing about me and being there as a former FA president and with the Black Stars and knowing the dynamics of what goes in at the Black Stars, probably that is making him to take that informed decision about me”, Ogum told StarTimes.
According to him, under the conditions that he is available and at the right time, he will rise up to the call and serve his nation.
“It’s a national call and when the day comes and I’m available, then once it’s a national duty, we’ll all rise up to the call”, he stated.
Coach Ogum is currently the Assistant coach of the home based Black Stars, and was appointed coach of Asante Kotoko prior to the commencement of the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League season from WAFA. His side, Asante Kotoko currently lead the league table with 36 points from 16 matches, 6 points above second place Bechem United Football Club.
