The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has given a quick reaction to the quality of officiating showcased by centre referee Rastum Gameli Senorgbe and his assistants in Sunday’s Super Clash in the Ghana Premier League Match Week 7 outstanding fixture between Accra Hearts of oak and Asante Kotoko.
The Ho based referee was the centre referee who steer the affairs of the biggest game on the Ghanaian football calendar on Sunday at the Accra sports stadium, which ended in a stalemate, the SWAG is impressed with the performance of the officiating officials.
SWAG took to its official Twitter account few hours after the keenly contested game on Sunday evening to salute referee Senorgbe and his three other colleagues Patrick Papala and Gilbert Adom Mensah who were assistants for Lines 1 and 2 respectively, along with Bashiru Dauda who was the 4th referee.
“SWAG is truly proud and salute you our dedicated member Rustum Senorgbe Gameli and your colleagues. Good officiating in the @HeartsOfOakGH and @AsanteKotoko_SC Game on Sunday.”

Years back, punditry discussions in the media post a Hearts of Oak vs Asante Kotoko match were centred on the performance of the referee of the game, not spared of fierce arguments over contentious decisions of the referee on the day. As the biggest club football match in the country, one would expect that discussion before and ultimately, after the match should be centred on the quality of play the two teams sold out, player exploits viz-a-viz tactics of the coaches on the day, but on the contrary, the referee’s performance rather stole the show.
This time, the airwaves have spared stakeholders of the game disagreements over officiating, as the attention is much more directed to the game itself, and SWAG feels proud of the referees for showing that Ghana has the potentials to produce referees of international standard.
