Bechem United will host leaders Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) match week 19 encounter at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Tuesday, and coach Kassim Mingle has expressed his views on the Porcupines’ chances of winning the league title by the end of the current campaign.
The GPL has entered the second half of the season with title contenders intensifying their results accumulation might, and leaders Asante Kotoko who had opened a 10-point lead at the summit of the league log remain favourites to lift the trophy for the first time since 2013/14 season. Many pundits have tipped coach Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side as the ultimate favourites to win the title this season looking at their current form and the points build up, but Kassim Mingle has a different opinion.
There are 16 matches to the end of the season by May, and coach Mingle insists that it would be premature to tip the Porcupine Warriors as the sole favourites to lift the title. Mingle however admits that Asante Kotoko have the “advantage” of winning the title, but he believes that the race is not over.
“It’s too early to say have taken the league”, Mingle told ghanasportspage.com. “They have the chance of winning it but as at now it’s too early. We have about 15 matches more to play, so it’s too early to say they’ve taken the league, no. Let’s wait for some time before. They have the advantage of [winning it] but it’s too early. We have a lot of matches to play”, he maintained.
Asante Kotoko have maintained their resurgent form after the first half of the league, winning their first match in the second half of the league by 2-0 over Dreams FC, and are looking forward to continuing the dominance over the Hunters when the two sides face off on Tuesday after at Bechem.
