The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has issued explanations on why some players could not make the final list to join the Black Stars squad for the play-offs against Nigeria.

The absence of players like Majeed Ashimeru, Antoine Semenyo, Baba Abdul Rahman, Samuel Owusu, Richmond Boakye Yiadom and Kamaldeen Sulemana from the Ghana squad sparked anger in several football pundits and fans, some who have reacted in diverse ways with some going hard on the FA. In response to the concerns raised by many following the release of the 27-man Ghana squad, the GFA has stated that the above named players were invited to join the camp of the stars, but failed to join due to injuries suffered late on at their respective clubs.

“Majeed Ashimeru, Antoine Semenyo, Baba Abdul Rahman, Samuel Owusu, Richmond Boakye Yiadom and Kamaldeen Sulemana were all handed call ups to the senior national team and were expected to report to camp on March 20, 2022 but failed to join the rest of the squad due to injuries at the respective club sides”, the FA stated in a statement on Tuesday.

“Team Doctors of the respective clubs of the players wrote and officially inform the GFA of their injury situations and confirmed their unavailability for the double-header against Nigeria”, the statement added.

The GFA says it is of firm believe that the players concerned would recover quickly and be available for selection for future assignments. The Association has as well wished the six crocked players players all the best as they continue to recover.

“It’s the hope of the Association that injured players will recover quickly and join the senior national team for future assignments. The Ghana Football Association has sent its best wishes to six players who could not join the Black Stars squad for the play-offs against Nigeria due to injuries”, the FA added.
