The results against Karela United changes nothing in our title aspirations – Prosper Ogum insists

The premier league leaders Asante Kotoko dropped two points on Sunday evening after they drew 1-1 with Karela United after losing defender Ishmael Ganiu to a marching orders following a hard tackle on Karela’s Matthew Andoh.

Asante Kotoko maintained their 8 points lead at the summit of the league log after securing a point against Karela United, and coach Prosper Ogum believs that is mathematically enough for the Porcupine Warriors. Asked what it meant to have dropped points at home at this crucial point of their title aspirations, Ogum insisted that his side are not under any pressure as their current position means they need to lose at least three matches before any club would have a chance of catching up with them on the log.

“It’s still on course, I mean before this game [against Karela United] the number of point difference is still there; 8 points gab which means we need to go down three games before anybody can surpass us, so it doesn’t change anything”, he insisted.

Asante Kotoko’s next two matches would all be at the Baba Yara sports stadium against King Faisal and arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak. The Porcupine Warriors will have to play these matches without their captain Ishmael Ganiu who was sent off against Karela United, but Ogum is unfazed about the situation, saying the said games are normal games.

“They are not difficult games as you are seeing it, they are normal games, we will play them. The captain is not there – we will try and see how we can sharpen the other central defenders to fit into the game plan, so to me we are ready and we are going to pick it game by game confidently”, Ogum explained, speaking to StarTimes after the game against Karela United.
