Aduana Stars set out mentality in camp, dish out reasons behind their alertness against Medeama on Monday

Two times league champions Aduana Stars have set out clearly what the team aims to achieve on Monday when they host Medeama Sporting Club in the match day 27 encounter of the premier league season, as they look forward to finish well in the league with an eye still fixed on the title.

Coach Felix Aboagye’s side were close to dislodging Asante Kotoko from the summit of the league table to keep their league title aspirations alive, but slipped off with couple of home defeats which has made their dreams now almost impossible to clinch their third league title in history. The Dormaa based club will host Medeama SC on Monday, May 2 for the premier league week 27 tie, and the club is poised for action not to leave any stone unturned as they look forward to taking hold of all the tree points.

In an interview with ghanasportspage.com, Communications Director of the club, Evans Oppong admitted worry over lose of points in recent matches, and says the club is up for win against Medeama for two major reasons – to overtake the Yellow and Mauve on the league log, and to take off pressure from the club ahead of their match against traditional rivals Asante Kotoko in the match week 28 fixtures.

“We’ve had a lot of defeats in our matches especially when playing at home. We are struggling to pick the three points at the NAM 1 stadium”, Evans Oppong admitted.

“The last time we played at home we were defeated so this time around we are going all out [against Medeama] so we can have victory. After losing the Bono derby to Berekum Chelsea our preparations have gone as planned, we have not had any setbacks, we have not had any fresh injuries, all the boys have trained heavily going into this game, and all our mentality is about a win because a win will help us overtake Medeama on the league log”, he said.

For the first time in their premier league history since their debut in the top flight in the 2009/2010 season, Aduana Stars conceded and eventually lost by 2-0 to Asante Kotoko in the league at the NAM 1 Park during the first round of the ongoing season, and the reverse fixture at the Baba Yara stadium in the week 28 fixture will provide a perfect opportunity for the ‘Ogya’ lads to redeem themselves against the Porcupine Warriors. As a result, Evans has stated that Aduana Stars want to win the match against Medeama on Monday to ease every pressure on the players ahead of that crucial game against Kotoko in Kumasi.

“Looking at the number of matches left, it’s left with eight games, and after this game our next game would be a difficult one in Kumasi against Kotoko, so if we want to take off pressure from the team then we need to win this game [against Medeama] so that there will be no pressure on us for the next weekend match”, he added.
