• Maxwell Agyemang ends GPL title race drama with perfect equalizer in Obuasi
For a record 25th time, Asante Kotoko has won the Ghana Premier League, clinching the title with three games to spare following Thursday’s 1–1 with Ashantigold at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium. Meanwhile last season’s champion Accra Hearts of Oak are stumbling more frequently than usual and in a fight for a top-four finish.
Kotoko has now won 25 league titles – four more than their rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak.
Prior to today’s game, the Porcupines were looking for just a point to clinch the league title.
Yaw Annor scored to put the host ahead during the 11th minute with a master-class finish to equal Etouga’s lead on the golden boot race with 20 goals.
Later in the second half, Maxwell Agyemang snatched the point for the league winners on the 67th minute to end the GPL title race drama.
The are first on the league log after grabbing 60points. With three matches left to finish to wrap up the season, Kotoko are ten points clear above second and third place and 12 points clear above the last season champions, Hearts of Oak who sit at the fourth position.
The Porcupine Warriors will line-up against one of the biggest GPL side, Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium this weekend on week 32 whiles Hearts of Oak takes on King Faisal in Kumasi at 6PM on Sunday.
