Top Ghanaian physical trainer and CEO of Train Like a Pro GH, Totti Laryea has assessed Mubarak Wakaso’s fitness after Ghana’s 4-1 humiliating defeat to Japan in the Kirin Cup on Friday morning.

The physical trainer explained that the former Deportivo Alavez midfielder lacks match fitness and will need more time to regain form after his injury last year.

The Black Stars lost 4-1 in the opening match of the Kirin Cup Soccer Tournament at the Noevir stadium in Kobe on Friday.

Mubarak Wakaso started for the first time in seven months, played alongside Mohammed Kudus while Christopher Antwi Agyei, Captain Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew played in the front three.

The team played without most key players as Coach Otto Addo named two substitutes in the starting line-up. Clermont Foot defender Alidu Seidu and Hearts of Oak defender Dennis Korsah – were given the nod in a three back system that also had Edmund Addo partnering Daniel Amartey.

The physical trainer, Totti Laryea after the game disclosed in an interview with Agorohene Nana Yaw Opoku on Accra-based Original Tv that the 31-year-old Black Stars midfielder is lacking match fitness.

“Mubarak Wakaso’s fitness level is down. Yes, Mubarak Wakaso’s fitness level is down. I am not saying it because I want to train him just because am a trainer, no. I train stars but his fitness level is down. He is not having match fitness. He will flop if you fix him to start,’ he said.

Wakaso failed to make an appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations early this year in Cameroon and also missed the World Cup playoffs against Nigeria in March following an injury he sustained in Ghana’s 1-0 win over South Africa in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification series last year.

But he was named in the 33-players invited by Coach Otto Addo for the games against Madagascar and Central Africa Republic.

The Shenzhen FC player has scored 13 goals in 66 appearances for the Black Stars since his debut in 2012.
