The story of how the inspiring GPL attacker, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh joined Accra Hearts of Oak has been explained by his Hearts of Oak team-mate, Abdul Aziz Nurudeen.

The Phobians completed the signing of the talented sharpshooter on transfer deadline day in January 2020.

The young forward penned a three-year deal with the Premier League giants club on Monday evening.

Barnieh joined the club from Madina Republicans after a recommendation from his team-mate Abdul Aziz Nurudeen who also joined the club on the same day from Vision FC, a Division One League side.

In December 2019, the then seventeen-year-old Daniel Afriyie was at the end of a four-week trial at Kumasi Asante Kotoko. Those four weeks were some of the hardest for the youngster. Playing as a striker the whole time, he struggled to impress and he was rejected.

The following month after being dropped by Kotoko, Afriyie was given another chance to player for a Ghana Premier League side after he was offered as part of negotiations between Hearts of Oak and Abdul Aziz Nurudeen who he shared the same agent with.

The former Ghana U23 midfielder narrating the story of how the 21-year old Afriyie Barnieh joined Accra Hearts of Oak, he stated, “I had received call from an agent that Hearts of Oak wanted me so one day, the agent told me we should go and meet the Hearts officials at the training grounds. Because Afriyie and myself had the same manager, I told the manager why don’t we go with Afriyie because I know he’s very good may be they’ll like him.”

“That’s how he joined us and I introduced him to them so I’ll say yes I recommended him to Hearts. I’m very happy for how far he has come” he told Angel TV.

The highly rated midfielder was a member of the Black Meteors team that finished fourth at the U-23 Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Elsewhere, Afriyie Barnieh was also the captain of the Ghana Black Satellites that won the WAFU Zone B tournament in 2020 and the CAF U-20 Championship in 2021.
