EXCLUSIVE: Top GPL tactician finally confirms his departure

Top tactician in the Ghana Premier League, Coach Annor Walker has officially confirmed his departure from Great Olympics as their head coach.

The 61-year-old gaffer speaking in an interview interview with Gideon Okyere Anim Gatusso on Accra-based Original FM’s Super Sports Show said, “I coached Olympics for one season and it has ended. I have the right to part ways with them. There’s no offer for me to extend my contract. They’ve not come to me.

“They have paid me all my salaries but it is left with only one month. It is my private matter and I cannot disclose the amount but they haven’t say that they will not pay. I want to move to a low profile club to continue my career.

“You can now call me former Accra Great Olympics coach. Yes, for now I am no more with them. It is confirmed,” Annor Walker stated.

It has been reported that the Black Galaxies coach will soon take over as the head coach of newly-promoted GPL side, Samartex for the upcoming season.

Annor Walker has rich experience in the Ghana Premier League having worked with Bechem United.

In February 2020, he was appointed as the coach for the Teshie-based team Accra Great Olympics.

Ahead of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season, in his capacity as the head coach, he set a top five finish target for the club, stating also that if they end up in a good position of ultimately challenging for the trophy they would surely put in a good fight. In January 2021, he took a sick leave which resulted in the appointment of Yaw Preko and Godwin Attram to serve as head coach and assistant respectively. He resumed his role as head coach in February 2021 and the two were relieved of their duties.

He finished the season under review on the sixth position with the club after bagging 48 points.
