Asante Kotoko defender Ishmael Abdul Ganiu is left panting in pains at home as he awaits for medical care from the club following anterior Cruciate ligament (ACL) he suffered while training the clubs training ground at Adako Jachie last month.
Ganiu missed was registered to feature for Asante Kotoko in the Champions League this season but was missed the opening match against Kano Pillars which ended in 3-2 defeat for his side in Kano.
The nature of the injury looks career threatening and requires urgent surgery, but the player has been kept waiting in pains for the past one month when doctors gave him pain relievers and assured to “get back” to him.
“I’m at home now because of the injury, it’s a ligament injury in my knee”, Ganiu disclosed to Fox FM in a interview. “I spoke with the (Kotoko team) doctors and they said they will get back to me so I’m waiting for them”, he said.
Asante Kotoko midfielder Richard Senanu suffered a similar cruciate ligament injury and was recently flown to Germany where he underwent a successful surgery before flying back home, but according to Ganiu, the doctors have informed him that his injury “is more severe” than that of his teammate Senanu.
“Mine is different but mine is more severe than that of Senanu, that is what the doctors are saying”, he revealed.
Describing the severity of the injury, Abdul Ganiu said he feels extreme and unbearable pains in his knee and usually uses knee support to enable him walk “slow, slow, slow”. “I feel too much pains in my knee, I can’t even walk fast, I walk though but I feel much pains inside, if I will walk unless slow, slow, slow, else I can’t walk”, he cried out.
Asked whether he is put on any first aid medication pending the expected surgery, Ganiu answered in negative, adding, he was given pain killers which lasted for five days when he got injured and has since not been taking any medication.
“No, no, no, when I got injured they gave me some pain killers for five days , after the five days I’m not under drugs any more”, he said.
Meanwhile, he said he’s spoken to the team doctors who assured him they’ll talk to the club officials over his situation likewise his manager, who has also informed the club of his complains, but he is yet to hear from the club.
