Premier league side Ashantigold SC have written to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to confirm their readiness to represent Ghana in the 2020/2021 CAF Confederation Cup competition.
The GFA on Thursday September 3, 2020, announced that it had written to both Ashantigold SC and Asante Kotoko asking for official confirmation from the clubs of their readiness to represent Ghana in the Confederation Cup and the Champions League respectively. This the FA did following a communique dated August, 31, 2020 from the continent’s football governing body, to Member Associations to confirm their engagement in the 2020/2021 CAF Total Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup respectively.
Following a receipt of the letter from the GFA, Ashantigold have swiftly written back to the GFA confirming their participation in the Confederation Cup competition as Ghana’s sole representative. Communications Manager for the Miners, Eric Karikari has confirmed this to ghanasportspage.com.
“We received it (the letter from the GFA) yesterday evening asking us to confirm, so we’ve confirmed to them that we will participate, so our confirmation has been sent. We sent it in the evening (September 3) but am sure the will acknowledge its receipt this morning”, Karikari confirmed, speaking to ghanasportspage.com.
According to him, Ashgold did not delay in responding because the GFA had already informed them by verbal means of their qualification to represent the nation in the said competition, so the letter of inquiry was for them to affirm their confirmation which they’ve duly done.
“Initially the FA had already informed us verbally that we will be representing in the Confederation Cup competition, so this was to affirm that what they told us is true, so it’s only for confirmation”, he stated.
Asked whether the FA made some requirements from the club, Karikari declined.
As already reported by ghanasportspage.com, Ashantigold have confirmed a budget of $500,000 for the Confederation Cup campaign.
