As part of its contribution to ease financial pressure on the Premier League clubs due to the coronavirus disease, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has absorbed a whooping 50% of it’s loan facility given to the premier league clubs before the commencement of the 2019/2020 premier league campaign, ghanasportspage.com can exclusively confirm.
The decision was arrived at at the just ended videoconference meeting between representatives of the premier league and the five Executive Council Representatives and President of the GFA on Thursday.
Issues confronting football at the premier league level were top of the agenda for the meeting and the reactions to the CAF letter of enquiry to the FA about the fate of the league was also a top most priority.
Before the start of the GPL of the current campaign, the GFA gave each of the 18 premier league clubs a loan package of GHC50,000 to assist them organize themselves well for the start of the league while awaiting the TV right financial package from StarTimes. In the initial agreement, the clubs were to pay the full amount back to the GFA.
However, according to deep throat source of ghanasportspage.com, the GFA has agreed to absorb 50% of the principal amount as part of its measures to assist the clubs in this financial difficulty imposed by the global affliction by the deadly COVID-19 Pandemic. As a result, the clubs will pay only half of the total amount of the loan, which would be GHC25,000, a decision which has been gladly welcomed and embraced by the Premier League clubs.
