CAF Confederations Cup: Nkana FC targets quarter final birth, vows to hold Kotoko in Kumasi

Kumasi Asante Kotoko Confederations cup opponents Nkana FC have targeted qualification from the group to the quarter final stage of the competition and a draw against Kotoko on Sunday will be enough, according to club CEO Charles Chakatazya.

After securing an emphatic 3-1 home win over the Porcupine Warriors last Sunday, the Red Devils currently lie summit of group C with 6 points and will face wounded lion Asante Kotoko on Sunday in the reverse fixture on match day four of the group at the Baba Yara Sports stadium.

Speaking to FOX FM on Focal sports, Chakatazya maintains their opponents are a difficult side to beat at home, but insists a positive result from the game will be enough to hand his side a quarter final ticket.

‘Our target is to qualify from the group into the quarter final, even before the Kotoko game (in Kitwe which Kotoko lose 3-1) I mentioned that our target is to qualify’, Chakatazya said in an interview on Focal Sports.

Asked whether Nkana stands a chance of qualifying ahead of Asante Kotoko, the former Nkana team manager sounded highly optimistic, tipping a draw in Kumasi being enough results for his side.

‘It’s possible that we will qualify (for the quarter final stage) especially if we get a positive result in Ghana Kumasi (against Kotoko), a win or a draw will be enough for us’, he continued. ‘But remember we have a game with Zesco at home and Al Hilal in Sudan which will give us direction and the results in Ghana will give us the direction.

Nkana FC’s contingent for the match against Kotoko on Sunday took off from Zambia in the early hours of Tuesday, will pass the night in Ethiopia and arrive in Ghana on Wednesday and will on arrival, be flown to Kumasi where the match takes place on Sunday.

Asante Kotoko on the other hand arrived in Ghana on Tuesday to begin preparations for a massive overturn of their 1-3 lose to Nkana last Sunday in Kitwe.
