Former FIFA U-20 World Cup winner, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, has blamed the players of U-20 for being complacent against the Gambia.
Ghana Black Satellites suffered unanticipated 2-1 defeat to the Gambians in their final group match in the ongoing AFCON U-20 Championship in Mauritania.
The Black Satellites took the lead through Abdul Fatawu in the first before the Gambians bounced on the Ghanaian to get two goal to secure qualification into the next stage of the competition.
Ghanaians have criticised the Black Satellites team for exhibiting poor performance against the Gambia.
And Emmanuel Agyemang Badu whose last penalty kick aided Ghana to win its first ever FIFA U-20 World Cup trophy in Egypt 2009 has disclosed that the players were complacent.
“There are certain characteristics which always curtail our progress as a country, and that is, we sometimes underrate unknown oppositions,” said Agyemang Badu in an exclusive interview with Nimde3 FM.
“The only thing that couldn’t help us to win the last group game is how the players underrated the Gambians”, he added.
The Black Satellites will play against Cameroon at 4:00pm today in the quarter-final of the tournament.
