Two times Ghana Premier League champions Aduana Stars have dissolved the captaincy department of the club, leaving the playing body leaderless currently, the club has confirmed.
Speaking to Fox FM in an interview on Wednesday, Communications Director of the club Evans Oppong (Maestro), confirmed the news as a measure based on recommendations by head coach, W. O. Tandoh.
Former Asante Kotoko, OGC Nice, Tema Youth striker Yahaya Mohammed was the club’s captain and deputized by former Medeama SC centre back Paul Aidoo, while long serving player Emmanuel Akuoko was serving in another capacity as general captain, but their roles have been scrapped despite still continuing as members of the squad.
“We had a management meeting the other time and met with our head coach W. O. Tandoh and, looking at his report submitted after the NC Special competition and issues he raised during the management meeting, he noted that we’ve come to a new season and with him now confirmed as head coach, he believes there are one or two things that needs to be done that will help”, Maestro begun, speaking to Fox FM. “We also accepted that we’re going into a new season and we need to back our coach and the technical team, so management met and informed all the players that, we’ve accepted that we’ve dissolved our captaincy or the players leadership and as at now no one is a captain at Aduana football club”, he confirmed.
According to Maestro, the club is currently recruiting new players behind the scenes and soon a substantive captain would be named. The club has however charged the new players to accord the senior players in the team the respect due them.
“We told the new arrivals to respect the old players in the team, but in the mean time, soon we will name our substantive captain after our recruitment and also name the new leadership. It could be that the existing players will still play the roles or the new ones will be appointed, we will let the players and the technical team decide as to who they want to be their leader”, he said.
The Aduana Stars playing body had a five-member player-welfare committee made of five senior players; Joseph Addo, Elvis Opoku, Emmanuel Akuoko, Paul Aidoo, Hafiz Adams and Yahaya Mohammed, who mediate between management and the playing body but this committee has also been dissolved ahead of the new season as the club seeks a new beginning.
