Asante Kotoko officially named former Ashanti Gold SC caretaker coach Kjetil Zachariassen as their substantive coach after sacking CK Akonnor.
Fox Sports reported last week that the Porcupine Warriors have asked Akonnor to step aside as coach of the club and accept a new role being given him as Technical Director of the club, and Kotoko released an official letter dated July 4, 2019, confirming the appointment of Akonnor as the club’s Technical Director, though the former Eleven Wise, Dreams FC, Hearts of Oak and Ashanti Gold boss is yet to respond to Kotoko’s seeming imposing appointment.
Norwegian coach Kjetil Zachariassen replaced Svetislave Tanasijevic at Ashanti Gold SC in the second round of the just ended Normalization Committee Special Competition Tier 2 and guided to Miners to the final, beating division one side Nzema Kotoko 1-0 to qualify for the 2019/2020 CAF Confederations Cup campaign.
The Norwegian will now lead Asante Kotoko to the CAF Champions League campaign next season.
On the other hand, CK Akonnor is yet to confirm his acceptance of the new role assigned him by Kotoko, a role which we understand he is not willing to accept.
