Organizers of the 2019 President Cup have confirmed that President Nana Akufo-Addo will be present at the Baba Yara sports stadium during the 2019 President Cup match between the two biggest clubs in Ghana, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Sunday.
The President Cup is played annually between randomly selected two clubs, predominantly Hearts of Kotoko in honour of the sitting president of the republic, and this year’s edition is being organized in honour of the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Unlike some previous years when the president, due to busy schedule was unable to attend the match, organizers of this year’s edition have confirmed to Fox FM that the president will grace the special occasion in person, which is a boost for massive attendance.
“As we know the President likes football, he is based in Accra but this time he is coming to Kumasi, he is coming to [the] Ashanti region to grace the occasion”, Alex Akumey, an official of the organizers confirmed to Rush Hour Sports in an exclusive interview.
The president will have a special duty to perform on the day, as he will be tasked to present the cup the winning team on Sunday. The president will as well, take the opportunity to address fans present, and to a larger extend all football loving fans and Ghanaians at large on football relating football in the country.
“Anybody who gets the chance only to see the president on TV will see him on Sunday at the stadium, he will be the one to present the cup the winning club, we’ve confirmed everything”, Akumey confirmed.
Asante Kotoko go into the match as holders and Accra Hearts of Oak will look forward to snatching the bragging rights away from their arc rivals, but only time and the turf will be the ultimate judge as to who wins on the day.
