Crocked Karela United goalkeeper has unreservedly commended his teammates for a good job done by qualifying the Aiyinase based side to the final of the Normalization Committee (NC) Special Competition tier one competition to face Asante Kotoko.
Kofi Mensah, who has been on the sidelines for several weeks due to injury, keeping him out of most of the matches Karela played on the road to the final, watched from the stands as Isaac Hagan, who, without a doubt, has been splendid in the campaign continued where he left off.
Mensah, formerly of Tema Youth, Ebusua Dwarfs, Samatex has not manned the post for Karla since April 28 at the Dansoman Carl Reindolf park where Karela dramatically came from 3 goals down to draw with Liberty Professionals, thanks to the sensational brace from talisman Diawisie Taylor and a goal from in-form Solomon Sarfo Taylor.
In the absence of Mensah, Isaac Hagan has been in the post in matches against Elmina Sharks, Inter Allies, WAFA, Dreams FC, Ebusua Dwarfs as well as the sensational 1-0 win over Ashanti Gold SC at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium in the semi-final of the tier one to set up a blockbuster final against Asante Kotoko to be played at the Baba Yara sports stadium on Sunday, June 23, 2019.
“First of all, I thank God for this achievement”, Kofi Mensah told FOX FM in an interview. “I’m really proud of the great work done by my teammates, they have really made us proud and the fans too. It has not been easy for me watching from the stands due to my injury but (Isaac) Hagan has done well too, people ruled us out in the game against Ashgold but thanks to the boys for making it possible, now we are in the final and our next target is to win the trophy.
Kofi Mensah, regarded as the architect behind the recent success of Karela, started in the post in the NC competition, saved a penalty against Dwarfs in Cape Coast on match day one, helped his side to a crucial 1-1 draw at the Theatre of Dreams against Dreams FC and as well made the difference in Karela’s 1-0 victory over giants Accra Hearts of Oak at the CAM Park to keep his side in the competition during the group stages.
Asked if he feels threatened to lose his spot to Hagan due to his long absence, Mensah chose to focus on team success as he hopes to bounce back in grand style.
“The most important thing is for the team to keep winning, every player’s aim is to play more and I am hoping to return strongly. Now I feel much better and I look forward to come back even better”, Kofi Mensah told FOX sports.
