Veteran gospel musician Grace Ashley is not just a patriotic supporter of the senior national team, the Black Stars, but also a lover of the local game with lots of admiration for the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The famous Black Stars cheer songs composer has revealed in an exclusive interview with ghanasportspage.com, that she is a die hard fan of defending champions of the Ghana Premier League, Aduana Stars, stating why she prefers to support the Dormaa based club at the expends of the two most glamorous clubs in Ghana football; Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
The “Black Stars Mmere Nie” composer explained, that the reason why she supports the Ogya boys is because she hails from Dormaa where the club is based. However, Grace Ashley hinted that though she is a great follower and lover of football, she is a little fainthearted in terms of supporting a team during games and so she doesn’t want to follow a club where the expectations are so high that the accompanying heart breaks will become almost unbearable for her.
“Me I support Aduana [Stars]”, Grace Ashley told ghanasportspage.com in an exclusive interview. She was very quick to explain why she chose Aduana over Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, saying, her first reason is because she hails from Dormaa, and secondly is to avoid too much stress when expectations are not met.
“When we talk of the local clubs, Kotoko and Hearts are clubs known to everybody and it’s like the competition between them is too high, so if you follow both of them with your heart it will stress you. But Aduana is also one of the teams that is in my hometown, well, whater the situation something from your hometown will always be taken home, so I support Aduana so much”, she explained.
Asked whether she does watche matches of Aduana Stars, Grace Ashley responded in affirmation but says it’s difficult for her to watch most of their matches since she is not in Ghana.
“The matches they play recently I have not been in Ghana for some time now, but I do follow them on social media, but I remember a certain maiden edition match they came to play in Tema that made Aduana to stand out, so as for Aduana I follow them right from their genesis till today. But life is up and downs, at times they fall, at times they rise so we leave it all to God. Now even because of the coronavirus everybody is stocking training (preparing secretly) so being it Aduana, being it Hearts or Kotoko everybody is preparing ahead but the end shall surly justify the means”, she said.
Aduana Stars were promoted into the Ghanaian top flight in the 2009/2010 season and they won the league title in their debut season. They are currently the holders of the premier league with their second league title.
