The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Normalization Committee (NC) have called off the proposed meeting between representative of clubs (both lower and top flight division) and the GFA-NC officials which was initially scheduled for Wednesday July 17, 2019 in Accra.
The meeting was to discuss with the clubs as per the GFA-NC’s invitation letter 24 hours ago, the start of the 2019/2020 league season and how to synchronize the Ghanaian league calendar withe that of Europe as has always been called for by the clubs.
However, most of the clubs have kicked against the said meeting as they believe the GFA-NC has nothing better to offer Ghana football and must rather provide road map for elections to be held for a new GFA president to be elected as soon as possible, so that football administration in the country is handed over to football people to bring back the nation’s most sought after sports back on its feet.
In a statement published on the official website of the GFA on Tuesday, the GFA-NC has called off the proposed meeting, citing discouraging response from the clubs as a reason for the cancellation.
“The proposed meeting between representatives of clubs and GFA-NC officials to discuss the 2019/20 league season has been called off”, the statement read. “The cancellation of the meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday, July 17, is necessitated by discouraging response from the invited clubs”, it continued.
The GFA-NC however, pledged its availability for future stakeholder meetings.
Contrary to earlier reports in the media claiming that the NC has written to the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) seeking for another extension for their mandate beyond the stipulated date of September 30 this year, the interim football governing body shut the door on any further reports by unambiguously debunking reports of any intent to remain in office beyond their allocated mandate.
“The GFA-NC wishes to state unequivocally that, it is determined to wrap-up within the stipulated mandate as spelt out by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA)”, it said in the statement.
The statement, signed by the Spokesperson of of the Normalization Committee, Dan Kwaku Yeboah, urged the general public and for that matter Ghanaians to “regard as false any contrary information, surrounding the GFA-NC supposed intent to further seek extension of its mandate”.
