The race for the 2019 Ghana Football Association (GFA) elections has officially taken off with nominations for election of the President, Executive Council Members and all Regional Football Association (RFA) Chairpersons opened on Monday, 16th September, 2019, paving way for all aspirants to pick their nomination forms to set the ball rolling.
Three strong aspirants for the GFA Presidential seat, George Afriyie, former Vice President of the FA, Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, president of premier league side Dreams FC and Wilfred Kwaku Osei Palmer – president of the Ghanaian top division side Tema Youth have all picked up nomination forms to contest for the 2019 GFA Presidential elections.
Lower division side Okyeman Planners financier George Afriyie picked up his nomination form on Monday at the premises of the FA having gone through the laid down formalities and is now left with filling and most importantly, securing of endorsements by five clubs from either of the divisions under the FA before submission.
Kurt Okraku, who officially announced his decision to contest the FA presidential seat on September 2, 2019, also stepped up to officially pick his nomination form on Monday to contest for the FA seat pending vetting for approval.
The last but not least, Wilfred Osei Palmer, who is seen by many as favourite for the vacant FA seat, equally downloaded his nomination form from the FA official site on Monday as permitted by regulations, and is currently “working on it” pending vetting and integrity checks by the Normalization Committee of the GFA.
“As for the forms it’s online so we’ve started working on it”, deputy national campaign coordinator for Palmer, Takyi Arhin confirmed to Fox FM in an interview.
Vetting for the qualified candidates is scheduled for September 26 to October 1 with the elections slated for October 25th, 2019 in Accra.
Winfred Osei Palmer’s camp have confirmed they’ll submit his form to the NC on Friday, September 20, 2019.
