The Ghana Football Association and the Youth Employment Authority have, under the Ministry of Youth and Sports sealed an unprecedented deal for women’s football, that will see Women’s Premier League players paid monthly allowances for a period of 6 months.
From the juicy deal, Youth Employment Agency -a body under the Youth and Sports Ministry- will pay the sum of GH₵ 500.00 as monthly allowances to 480 footballers in the Women’s Premier League plus 20 other people serving in the sector.
The Ghana FA led by President Kurt E.S. Okraku, met with the leadership of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Wednesday July 8, to sign the MoU to kick start the program estimated to cost a little over GH₵ 1.5 million.
This intervention has come at a time when the CoronaVirus pandemic has had a heavy toll on football in the country and the world at large.
Certainly, the historic move will go down as the most impactful initiatives women’s football has witnessed ever since it establishment in Ghana.
