Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has disclosed that The proposed financial support for our national team athletes and coaches from the MOYS is on course. A proposal on the request for the funds has been sent by the sector Minister to the Finance Minister, and the request is being considered alongside others from other Ministries on the Covid-19 fund. It is my hope that we will soon get a response from the MOYS, he said.
The Ministry through its Deputy Minister is also pushing for some financial package from the YEA for our athletes. We have had several meetings on that, and this week, i together with the Presidents of the FA and the NPC signed the proposal document to be sent to the Board Chairman of the YEA.
Hopefully this may even mature before the support from the Finance Ministry comes through. I am most grateful to the Hon. Minister and his Deputy for their tremendous show of concern for our athletes.
A team made up of myself, Athletics, Boxing, Golf, Football and the NSA were invited to meet and share some ideas with the Presidential Covid-19 Response Team on how to gradually and safely open our sports, it was a very fruitful discussion and I believe that very soon, some restrictions on training schedules for Individual sports may be lifted as we gradually move towards adopting a model for the lifting of some restrictions on Team sports. He assured.
