I will be very proud to win trophies with Asante Kotoko – Lee Addy open to Porcupine Warriors move

Black Stars defender Lee Addy has expressed his admiration for premier league giants Asante Kotoko, saying he is open to a move to the Kumasi based side and will be an honour for him to win trophies for the Porcupine Warriors.

Since leaving Zambian side Lusaka Dynamos in 2017, Addy last played for South African side Free State Stars in the PSL in 2019 and has since been without a club after terminating his contract with the PSL giants after a short spell. The seeming forgotten Black Stars centre back is now a free agent, and has declared his availability to join any club (being it local or foreign) that approaches with a favourable offer.

With Asante Kotoko chosen as Ghana’s representative in the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League season, ghanasportspage.com has been speaking to Lee Addy on whether he still holds the interest in joining coach Maxwell Konadu’s side. According to Addy, he is open to a move to any club with the right offer but will be very happy to join Asante Kotoko and to be part of any squad that will win a continental trophy for the Porcupine Warriors.

“Wherever the opportunity will come from I will be very happy to honour that invitation (from Kotoko should they come calling)”, Lee Addy told ghanasportspage.com in an exclusive interview.

Judging from his background as a native of Accra, Addy says that plays no role should he move to Kumasi and that any call from Kotoko will be received with honour.

“A Ga or an Asante can build a property in Accra or Kumasi regardless of their origin, it beautifies Accra and any time such a property is mentioned, the person’s name is attached. So I will be very very happy to join a club like Kotoko and achieve something there”, Addy disclosed.

Asked what his motivates him to fancy a chance to join Asante Kotoko, Lee explained that being part of a list of players who left the local scene to ply their trade abroad and return to still win a trophy with a club like Kotoko is a great achievement, and he would love to achieve that.

“If the opportunity comes and they feel that I can help and they call for my help I’m ever ready to help, because I will be very very happy to help. Because you have to leave a good legacy and a good name, so if they call the names of this year’s squad who were able to do something for Kotoko or those who were able to win Champions League for Kotoko, I will love that my name will appear”, Addy hoped.

Lee Addy stated further, that he is not just being motivated by Kotoko’s participation in the Champions League but winning with the club will be an honour. “I will be very proud to win trophies for or to be part of the group who will win trophies for Kotoko, and I will be very very proud that I will be one of the guys who have gone out and come in and win trophies for Kotoko. But it’s all about business because man has to leave good name and legacy”, he explained.

Lee Addy is one of the Ghanaian players who were left stranded in Ethiopia recently following the closure of Ghana’s borders as a preventive measure against importation of the novel coronavirus. Addy, among other 29 citizens have been airlifted back home last Friday by the government and are currently under a 14-day mandatory self quarantine at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Accra.
