Former Ghanaian world champion Nana Attakora Amaniampong has stated his readiness to serve his nation again when called upon to manage any of the national youth teams of the nation.
Nana Attakora Amaniampong was a regular member of Ghana’s u17 squad, the Black Starlets that won the FIFA u17 World Championship staged in Ecuador in 1995. The versatile Attakora played as a defender for the Black Starlets, but mostly operated during his playing days as a midfielder. He is best remembered for his strike against Portugal in the quarter final stage of the tournament after Emmanuel Bentil had broken the deadlock for Ghana. The match ended 2-0 for Ghana to set up a semi final clash with Oman.
The former FC Köln, SC Freiburg star is currently based in Germany with his family still making progress in the game of football but this time as a coach. Nana Attakora is currently working as assistant coach in German fourth tier side SSV-Merten 1925 and has welcomed any possible opportunity to serve his nation again by coaching any of the national youth teams. He made his aspirations known during an exclusive interview with Tema based Ahotor FM sports programme with Raymond Amoabeng (Daakyehene) as host.
“If I get the chance and I’m given any of the junior teams to coach, I will do it, why not”, Attakora Amaniampong told Ahotor FM. According to him, despite living in Germany, the fact still remains that Ghana is his native land and will always be available to serve anytime he is called upon.
“It’s my native land, I am also a Ghanaian, at least everybody wants to serve his nation, if I get this chance I will thank God, I wouldn’t say I won’t do it”, he concluded.
Presently, all the junior national youth teams of Ghana have relatively newly appointed indigenous coaches and Attakora, a former world champion with the Starlets stands a chance of being considered for future appointments.
