Former Asante Kotoko coach Charles Kwablan (CK) Akonnor initiated legal proceedings against his the Porcupines but has insisted that he wanted the matter resolved amicably at home and is still open for home settlement if Kotoko avails themselves for that.
Akonnor initiated the arbitration proceedings against his former employers at the Ghana Football Association Normalization Committee over alleged breaches of his employment contract as head coach of the club. Akonnor was reassigned from head coach to takeover as Technical Director of the club following appointment of a new coach to takeover his initial position as coach of the club, but declined to the new role as he believes his contract with the Kumasi based club has no such clause, and that he demands compensation.
Asante Kotoko have maintained that they acted in the spirit of the law and in accordance with the contract they have with CK, and as such, owes him no compensation hence the reassignment. Akonnor had wanted the matter resolved peacefully but Kotoko are in no mood to pay any compensation forcing CK to initiate legal proceedings at the FA against Kotoko. Meanwhile, he has insisted that he has provided Kotoko with contacts of his lawyers and should Kotoko decide to call them for home settlement where they’ll agree to pay him what is due him, they are ever ready.
“I gave the numbers (of my lawyers) to them (Kotoko management) to call them so that all these NC we went to resolve the issue won’t happen”, Akonnor told Fox Sports Talk on Fox FM. “So the last time they said they were going to talk to the lawyers and they’ve not done it so my lawyers also took the matter to the court of arbitration which is the NC to look into the matter”, CK explained.
To him, his lawyers would be ready for home settlement if Kotoko call them now.
“Right now as we speak if they call them and talk to them we can leave everything and talk normal, I wouldn’t want to stretch it so it turns into conflict, i’m not in that position to do that, so it’s in their hands”, Akonnor insisted.
Akonnor has returned every Asante Kotoko property in his possession to the club based on the club’s request, and he has stated he expects Kotoko to do justice by paying him everything due him as per the contract he had with the club, which he believes has been breached by the club.
“They requested for the car and the other things and I’ve submitted to them respectfully, and what deserves me think they should also show respect and do it, if they don’t do it then it will continue to go and go further, it is not in my hands”, he said.
