Ghana’s WBO Afric Welterweight Champion Patrick Allotey has sincerely rendered an unconditional apology to Michael Siaw Agyemang, an Asante Kotoko fan who he provocatively assaulted at the Accra sports stadium last Sunday following the Porcupines 2-1 win over rivals Hearts of Oak in the week six match of the Ghana Premier League.
The 29-year old professional boxer was at the Accra sports stadium to cheer his friend, Christopher Nettey, Asante Kotoko’s right full back whom he lives with at Chokor, an area of Accra before the player’s move to Kotoko in December last year.
According to Allotey, Michael Siaw Agyemang, victim of the unfortunate incident had blocked his view in the course of the game, standing directly in from of him (Allotey) with a Kotoko flag rapped around his neck, which prevented him from seeing the game. He asked Siaw to leave the place and adjust himself so he (Allotey) could also watch the match from his seat, but Siaw refused and kept on with the jubilation directed at him in a persistent and provocative manner.
He lost his temper and threw the punches at Siaw after both had held each other. Siaw suffered a deep cut just above his left eye, bleeding profusely.
Patrick Allotey has since felt guilty, ashamed and cannot believe such act came from him. He has rendered an unconditional apology to the victim, Siaw, his family, to the Ghana Boxing Authority and Ghanaians at large.
” I will plead with all Ghanaians to help me apologize to him (the victim), I will like to apologize to everyone and assure that what happened will not happen again”, Allotey said in an interview with FOX 997.9 FM.
According to Allotey, his actions need no defence and any explanation he’ll give wouldn’t be understood. To him, he can’t believe he did that and wants forgiveness from Siaw and all Ghanaians.
“No matter what I say people wouldn’t understand me because I threw a punch, I personally know what I did is not good. I have regretted I did that, people do insult me or provoke me more than what happened (at the stadium) but for this I just don’t know what made me to do that. I saw the cut and I keep asking myself whether it was me who really did that, what happened because I don’t believe I could do that because I have never done that before”, he regrettably said.
Allotey stated his readiness to foot all medical bills of Michael but states that his major concern is to be forgiven for his behaviour, failing to control his temper.
The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) have firmly condemned the act of Allotey and have assured the public that the boxer would be sanctioned by the GBA according to the laws governing his own profession.
Patrick Allotey, 29, has a boxing record of 44 bouts, 40 wins (30 KOs) with 4 defeats.
