The succession of Luis Suarez (33) is a subject that FC Barcelona has been thinking about for many months. This Monday, Mundo Deportivo reveals that among the multiple tracks envisaged over time, that leading to Marcus Rashford (22 years old) could have ended last summer. During the 2018-2019 season, the Blaugranas had inquired about the Manchester United striker, then 21 years old and whose contract then expired in June 2020. The target appeared interesting because the Red Devils were threatened with seeing their player trained at the club to leave freely a year later. According to the Catalan daily, the player, polled by the club at that time, saw with a good eye a departure to Camp Nou, which would have allowed him to cross a sporting and economic level.
But as discussions intensified with the player’s entourage and his brothers, who manage his interests, had guaranteed in Barcelona that they would do the forcing to leave Manchester United and join Catalonia boys. Marcus Rashford backed down. The English international, after careful consideration, had in fact felt that this was not the time to leave the club to join a new country, a new culture, a new language but also another type of football or even a packed locker room stars like FC Barcelona. For their part, the Red Devils had learned the interest of the club via the Spanish press and therefore realized the danger lurking on this file. Manchester United finally armored its nugget, which extended its contract until 2023 (plus an additional year optional) with its training club.
