Former Asante Kotoko coach and current coach of the Black Stars B team has refused to rule out a move to Asante Kotoko to take over the coaching position of the club.
Maxwell, a former player of Asante Kotoko has been heavily linked with a move to the Porcupines to take over the head coach position. The rumours became intensified when reports emerged that current coach of Kotoko Kjetil Zachariassen does not have a CAF Licence A certificate and other required credentials to qualify him to sit on the Kotoko bench.
Media reports has it that coach Maxwell Konadu will take over from Zachariassen as head coach of Kotoko just after the recently held WAFU tournament in Senegal, where he guided Ghana to win silver. Maxwell Konadu himself has however refused to rule out his imminent return to Kotoko but directs to focus should be on the CHAN qualifier match against Burkina Faso which is slated for October 20 after which the Kotoko issues are addressed.
“Let’s talk about what is immediately head of us for now, as for Kotoko it’s at home so when we come then we talk about home matters”, Maxwell Konadu told the press after the Black Stars B training at the Accra sports stadium on Tuesday.
Without confirming or denying the rumours, Maxwell revealed he has received several calls from the media asking for confirmation of the news linking him to Kotoko but he asked for the focus to be on the WAFU tournament instead, without ruling out anything.
“For now if we shift the attention it will worry a little. It’s like when we were going to play the [WAFU] final I was receiving some calls from Ghana and I told them listen, we have a match to play so let’s finish when we come home then we talk about home matters. For now we have a big task ahead of us which is [the match against] Burkina, they’ve beaten us here two times, we need to also go there and pay them back, so let’s concentrate on that before when we are done with that then anything about Kotoko we can talk about it”, Maxwell directed.
Meanwhile, Nana Gyambibi Coker, special Aide to Kotoko Executive Chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei, told Fox FM recently in an interview that the rumours linking Maxwell to the Kotoko coaching job are completely false and should be disregarded.
“I will say there is no truth in all of it, it is not head coach issue we are considering at this moment, it’s for assistant coach and we have finished with that. Now Johnson (Smith) has become assistant coach, the news about we are sacking the head coach, this or that person is the one coming are all false”, Nana Coker told Fox FM.
While coach Maxwell Konadu has not confirmed nor deny the truth of the rumours of his move to Kotoko, he is bent on beating Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou on Sunday after which the issue of returning to Kotoko will be fully reserved.
