The much talked about appointment of Division One side Phar Rangers President Nana Yaw Amponsah as the next Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko has has hit a snag after he was accused of failing to keep discussion with the Board of Directors confidential.
The defeated Ghana FA Presidential candidate has been interviewed by the club’s Board of Directors for the CEO position of the club, where he presented his visionary manifesto for the club when appointed. Hours after the said interview, details of the discussion were rife in the media, including conclusive publications that the Board had settled on Nana Yaw to be the next CEO, succeeding George Amoako who left the position recently.
Documents presented by Nana Yaw Amponsah as his vision for the club to the Board during the interview last week in Accra were leaked to the media. Consequently, despite being wowed by the components of presentation, the Board feels betrayed by their top most targeted man, who they believe has taken steps ahead of authorities to reveal to the public what they Board intends.
Responding to the strong rumours in the media that the Phar Rangers President has been tipped by the board for the job, the assistant to the Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace, Kwame Aboagye Mensah has hinted that Nana Yaw Amponsah will no longer be considered for CEO position of Asante Kotoko for failing to keep confidential matters as such.
“We have heard the news circulating in the media that the Board of Directors has settled on him [Nana Yaw Amponsah]. It’s not true and I repeat it’s not true,” Kwame Aboagye Mensah told Opemsuo FM in an exclusive interview.
“Everyone should take note that Asante Kotoko is a big brand and it can’t work with someone who is not secretive,” he remarked.
“Being interviewed by the Board of Directors and the next hour everything said during the meeting is in the media….how can we work with such individual?” he asked.
“If people have forgotten, let me remind that of Osei Kuffour who publicly said he’s the new President of Asante Kotoko. Was Osei Kuffour appointed to lead Asante Kotoko after all the interviews? It’s a big no.
“We have plans for the club and announcements are not to be made by the public but His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,” he concluded.
On June 18 this year, former Vice President of Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie issued official statement saying, “Kotoko is a great club and would want to serve one day. But, I want to state that I have currently taken up a commitment which would not permit me to take up the role”. This was in response to said calls on him by “Kotoko faithfuls and followers” to take up the Kotoko CEO. With George out and now Nana Yaw Amponsah “dropped”, time will tell who the Board settles on next to take up mantle of the CEO from where George Amoako left it.
