President and bank roller of Ghana Premier League side Bechem United Kingsley Owusu-Achau, popularly known as “Agama” has installed a policy in the club the will see the his side recruit players whose ages range between 16 and 19 years with exceptional talent.
The Bechem based Ghanaian top flight club has become one of the most traveling club in the country and one of the most football talent exporting side in the local league in recent times, and the club president is bent on offloading all old guns from the squad as the club resort to recruiting young talents to help not only put the club at top level football in the country, but to also enable player sales to recognized clubs whose policies are good enough for further developments of the players.
According to Agama, players who have already attained premiership status and have plied their trade with premiership clubs will have no chance in the Hunters squad. Kingsley Owusu-Achau made revealed these to Fox Sports in an exclusively extensive interview with Opoku Afriyie Richmond in his residency in Bechem, following the 22nd edition of the Top Kings Awards ceremony in which the latter was awarded last Sunday.
Bechem United have provided a strict criteria that will help the club to recruit the right players of the right age without any chance of age cheating.
“We have an age limit”, Agama told Opoku Afriyie. “Now all those we are recruiting this year I’ve asked them to present their BECE (Basic Education Certificate Examination) certificate, because everyone went through primary school education and that certificate does not lie. We will calculate the age on that cert to know that your age is hovering around this, for now from sixteen (16) and half to nineteen (19), anybody who will be accepted at age 21, then maybe the person is someone who has been in school whose football career must have been delayed by school, who probably just came out of school and is not an old folk”, he revealed.
Agama maintained that players who have had a taste of premiership football with other clubs will not be recruited by Bechem United as the club wants to do this so as to avoid release of players as free agents which will cost the club sums of money. “If you come to us and say I’ve played for Medeama, as soon as you say I’ve played for Medeama, I’ve played for this or that (premier league) team then you are disqualified immediately. Anybody who have played the premier division before is disqualified”, he insisted.
As part of their youth policy, Bechem United FC have earned a partnership deal in the United States that requires them to export five players each year to clubs in America. The first team squad are currently scheduled to embark on another Europe tour to France and Hungary on Saturday, August 10, 2019.
