Accra Hearts of Oak have perfectly avenged their 2-0 lose to Aduana Stars in the first round of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) by beating the “Ogya” lads the reversed tie at the Accra sports stadium on Sunday.

Then led by coach Samuel Paa Kwasi Fabin, Aduana Stars defeated the Phobians by 2-0 at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park at Dormaa, and the GPL pioneers have responded with a technical knockout.

Defence tormentor Patrick Razak proved too difficult for the Aduana Stars defence, drawing numerous fouls to himself. His dribbling powers left the defence of the visitors gasping for answers.

Razak was eventually brought down in the box 24 minutes into the game and the referee blew for a penalty.

Victor Aidoo stepped up to convert from the spot to give Hearts of Oak the lead in the 28th minutes.

All efforts by both sides to register a goal failed and the first half ended 1-0 in favour of the home side.

Coach Asare Bediako effected changes in the second half in search of the equaliser for Aduana Stars. Coach Samuel Boadu also made substitutions on the side of the Phobians, which saw Salifu Ibrahim introduced to replace Frederick Ansah Botchway.

The game increased in tempo but Hearts of Oak held on to their 1-0 lead till the later stages. Aduana Stars’ Hafiz Adams put the ball into his own net out of intensive pressure from the Phobians, increasing Hearts of Oak’s lead to 2-0 at the 90th minute. Additional minutes after the end of the regulation time was immaterial as the Phobians held on till the final whistle.

The win has pushed Accra Hearts of Oak to 3rd position on the league table with 30 points, 3 points behind leaders Accra Great Olympics.
