Ghanaian football powerhouse Kumasi Asante Kotoko have appointed former coach Charles Kwablan (CK) Akonnor as new technical director for the club, confirming Fox FM’s earlier reports that the coach has been relieved from his position as head coach of the club.
In a letter dated July 4, 2019 signed by club CEO George Amoako, Asante Kotoko confirmed the appointment of the former Ashanti Gold SC boss as technical director of the club, reassigning him from his former position to elevate him to a much higher position as Technical Director.
“I refer to our discussions with you on the above subject and I am pleased to announce to you that management of the club has made you the Technical Director of the club which takes immediate effect”, the letter read.
In the appointment letter, Akonnor has been assigned six major responsibilities to undertake should he accept his new role given him by the club. The new appointment has as well ”enhanced” Akonnor’s salary to GHC 8,500.00 which takes effect “from July 2019”.
Among other responsibilities, the new role has assigned Akonnor to the following job descriptions:
1. Oversee the technical direction of both the junior and the senior teams
2. Be an intermediary between the coach and the management team
3. Provide advice or technical assistance for the coach
4. Represent the technical team at all management meetings
5. Hold regular meetings with the other members of the technical team from time to time
6. Use your technical expertise to help promote and market the club
Fox Sports gather that Akonnor, as reported earlier by Fox sports, is not in any mood to accept his new appointment and would reject it. It is understood he will require Kotoko to pay him all compensation due him by virtue of his contract with the club as a head coach then walk away amicably, but would not hesitate to take legal action should Kotoko decline to his legitimate demands.
Akonnor has been served the letter of his new appointment and Kotoko keenly awaits his response sooner than later.
