Black Meteors defender Zakaria Fuseini has been ruled of the U-23 AFCON qualifier against Algeria this evening in Setif after he collapsed at training yesterday, assistant coach Michael Osei has confirmed.
Meteors have been dealt a huge loss going into the game against Algeria after midfield maestro Majeed Ashimeru was suspended for card accumulation, Osman Bukari feeling ill in addition to Fuseini.
Assistant coach Michael Osei confirmed to Fox FM in an interview on Tuesday, confirming the situation has forced the technical team to change their game plan in the second leg against Algeria this evening.
“We nearly lost Zakaria (to death)”, Michael Osei told Fox Fm. “When we finished the first session and about to start the main training, we were there and saw the kid going down with his tongue drawing out and about to die, but God showed great miracle and we were able to safe the boy through our doctors”, he revealed.
However, the unfortunate situation would not discourage the team as they remain focused on the game and endeavour to gain qualification. Meanwhile Zacharia has completely been ruled out of the game this evening despite looking okay. This according to Michael Osei, is to ensure safety of the player.
“That doesn’t mean we’ve given up in the game, because this game looking at where we’ve fought up to we will not give up we are going with determination and everything”, he assured.
Asked of the current condition of Zacharia Fuseini, coach Michael Osei says he’s fine this but has been ruled out of the game as a matter of caution.
“He’s fine, this morning he’s awake and moving around good but it’s not safe for coach to use him in the game because it’s not safe so as for him we’ve taken him out of the game. It has changed our game plan but all the same me together with my head coach and the other technical team, we’ve stratigised different game plan with which we will go into the game”, he said.
Fuseini will however remain with the team and return with them after the match.
