Ex Hearts of Oak midfielder Esme Mends has expressed worry over the club’s practice of shunning its youth team Auroras to feed the senior team, but rather turn to spend huge sums of money to buy “average players” from other clubs who have failed to win lures for the club over the last decade.
The flamboyant former midfield jerm is currently into player scouting business after hanging his boots, and has done Hearts of Oak a great service already in that regard, having scouted for the club midfielder Emmanuel Nettey, who is arguably the club’s best midfielder presently.
Esme Mends is worried about his former club’s inability to win any major trophy for the last ten years, and has blamed it on the club’s failure to focus on developing its youth team to feed the first team, but rather spend huge sums purchasing players who usually come and win nothing for the Phobia family. Speaking exclusively to ghanasportspage.com, Mends pledged to scout great talented players for Hearts of Oak free of charge just for the love he has for the club, if only they will give him that opportunity.
According to him, should the club just open up to him and offer him that opportunity to scout players of great talent for the club, he is highly optimistic that they will bounce back to winning ways and win the domestic league within a shortest possible time.
“I will not charge Hearts anything”, Esme Mends told ghanasportspage.com. “If they (Hearts of Oak) give me the chance I can give them quality, you let them play and win the league so we can all take the glory so we will all be happy. Let those who will charge money charge it and go but for me, I am telling you, anybody who knows me knows very well that I can bring 10 players to Hearts of Oak and I won’t charge a dime, and it’s for the love for the club”, Mends assured.
He further disclosed that there are several ex players of Hearts of Oak who are willing to help the club in terms of player recruitment and he will be very glad to scout for the club wholeheartedly if only he is given that opportunity.
“There are a host of ex players who are willing to help the team in terms of player recruitment, so if the opportunity comes I will do it for them wholeheartedly and I will be very glad”, he appealed.
