In what appears to be a perfect response to Alhaji Grunsah’s claim on the salary structure of Asante Kotoko, deputy skipper of the Porcupine Warriors Emmanuel Gyamfi has revealed how much he and his teammates earn as monthly salaries playing for the club.
Premier league side King Faisal FC President, Ahaji Grunsah in a recent radio interview claimed, that the claim that players of Asante Kotoko are arguably the best paid premier league players in the country with most of the squad receiving in excess of GH₵2,000 a month is absolutely a fallacy. The tough speaking football administrator claimed that he knows some players of the record premier league winners who receive less than half of the said figure as their monthly salary, and that his club (King Faisal) is as well one of the best paying premier league clubs in the the domestic league.
“It is never true players in Asante Kotoko are been paid GHS 2,000 or more. I know a lot of Kotoko players who are paid GH₵600”, Grunsah is quoted as saying in an interview with Kumasi based radio Ash FM.
In an exclusive interview with Ghana’s most credible sports website ghanasportspage.com, deputy skipper of Asante Kotoko Emmanuel Gyamfi has completely debunked the claims by Grunsah, using himself as an example of players whose monthly salaries at Asante Kotoko even crosses the GH₵2k mark.
“If I use myself as an example it’s up to GH₵2,000 and some are even more than that, even that of my own”, Gyamfi confirmed to ghanasportspage.com.
On the number of players whose monthly salaries reach the GH₵2k mark, the former Wa All Stars winger disclosed that more than 75% of the first team squad receive up to the said figure, with just about 10% of the squad who receive less than that.
“Most of the players, about 75% receive more than GH₵2k so we have about just 10% whose own is either lower than that GH₵2k but at least even them it’s okay to them, but if he says nobody receives up GH₵2k then for that I don’t agree with him, because me talking to you now I’m receiving more than that”, he clarified.
It is know fact that Asante Kotoko and their arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak have high wage bills and pay most of their players good salaries, but Grunsah believes that the media is just exaggerating the salary rate of these clubs expecially that of Asante Kotoko, but Emmanuel Gyamfi feels it’s time to set the records straight.
