Board member and acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asante Kotoko, Joseph Yaw Adu has laid bare his displeasure about the state of the club’s current secretariat, describing it as “disappointing” and “not ready to accommodate a Chief Executive Officer”.
The head of the five-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) officially assumed office as the acting CEO of the record premier league champions on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, but was highly demoralised at what he saw upon arrival at the club’s secretariat, where his office is seated. According to Yaw Adu, it is an incontestable fact that Asante Kotoko is seen by people outside as a big club, taking into account its achievements and for the fact that it belongs to the Asante Kingdom, making it a club with rich background and with much respect.
In contrast, the club’s current secretariat where all administrative works of the club take place is not up to the standard of a professional club of Asante Kotoko caliber, and he is disappointed at what he saw on his first day at work as a CEO of the club.
“To be frank with you, Kotoko as we see it outside is a big club. It belongs to Otumfuo so everybody knows that it’s a big club indeed”, Joseph Yaw Adu described, speaking exclusively to Gideon Boakye Botwe, staff of Asante Kotoko Express App.
“But coming into the office today, I have to confess – I’m little bit disappointed because, it seems the office is not even ready to accommodate a Chief Executive as of now. His office is as hot as….I have to come an sit in a conference room” (for some time), he confessed.
In addition to the woeful state of the CEO’s office, the former Director of Sports at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) received another baptism of fire from the existing staff he met, when he was informed about the nature of equipment being used at the offices of the secretariat which need urgent replacement. According to him, the staff told him most of the office equipment are not functioning and some are beyond repairs.
“The staff are also telling me most of the machines that they are using are not in good shape, they are not serviceable and I’ve requested that they put all these requests so that I forward to the board to for us to buy new machines to run the club. Because we are the modern world; it’s not like the time…..we have to go high tech. so we need all these things. I will recommend the request to the board to assist in acquiring all these things for the running of he office”, he assured.
