Ahead of the release of ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on the case involving the Ghana FA and Wilfred Osei Kwaku ‘Palmer’ today, the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt E. S. Okraku has given his version of major concerns of whatever the ruling will say, and urges all lovers of Ghana football to rather tone in that direction.
President of the Tema Youth Football Club, Wilfred Osei Kwaku ‘Palmer’ is seeking a relief at CAS after he was disqualified by the GFA’s Normalization Committee from contesting the GFA Presidential elections held in October 2019. The ruling on the landmark case will throw the leadership of the Kurt Okraku administration into hot waters should it go in favour of Palmer.
Palmer has prayed the world sports court to clear his name, and to declare the results of the said elections a nullity. With the verdict expected today, 4th August, 2020, stakeholders of the game in Ghana are hugely focused on what will be the outcome of the ruling, leaving almost any other business concerning football to wait. However, the FA President thinks otherwise.
The GFA boss says regardless of the outcome of the ruling, his main focus is on the “repositioning of Ghana football” and not on him as individual. Kurt believes people are “overly focusing” on the outcome of this case, leaving any other issues the FA has got to deal with to ensure that football returns and in the right direction. He stressed further, that post the CAS verdict, any official statement that will be issued will be from the GFA as an institution and not from him as a person. To him, while acknowledging the fact that the FA will have a lot to do depending on the verdict whatever happens, his main focus now is on how to put things in place to reignite the love for the game in people again and not on his fate after the ruling.
“I will not react to anything others say concerning this case”, Kurt Okraku is quoted as saying during an interview with Max FM. “There is a case involving Mr Kwaku and the GFA, if CAS gives its ruling today the GFA will speak, it’s not me Mr Kurt. I am very much focused on the repositioning agenda of Ghana football. We’ve all gone through a lot of troubles and we know that we will need a lot of efforts to bring back the love, so that is my main focus”, Kurt stated.
While awaiting the ruling of CAS today, Mr Kurt Okraku urged all to desist from overly focusing on the outcome of the case but give some attention also to things needed to be done to bring the game back onto its toes and to its glory days again.
“Let us not overly focus on one case, there are a lot of issues that we have to discuss about”, he advised.
