First Vice Chairman of the National Circles Council (NCC) of Asante Kotoko, Nana Kwame Dankwah hit out at former Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Esme Mends, for his comments about new Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah, when he described him as a ‘pretender’ and predicted his failure at the club.
In a recent interview with Ghana’s leading sports website ghanasportspage.com, Esme Mends alleged that Nana Yaw Amponsah is a pretender, who has a very terrible human relations and is below the standard of Asante Kotoko. He stressed that the new Kotoko CEO will fail as the club’s CEO, and will be chased out by the fans of the club for non performance, he will leave by himself. The interview went so viral, trending all over the local media platforms – print and broadcast with lots of pundits giving mixed arguments on the matter.
Aside the heated debates, the comments seems to have created lots of discomfort among the Kotoko fraternity, and the First Vice Chairman of the NCC, Nana Yaw Amponsah fired back at the astute scout.
“All Esme Mends should not be given a hearing”, Nana Kwame told ghanasportspage.com. He continued, saying, “Since when did Esme Mends realised that Nana Yaw is a pretender who is not an honest person? Now that Kotoko has appointed him to be our CEO, with vision that has been accepted by the board and owner of Asanteman Otumfuo has blessed him and handed the job to him, is now that we will say Nana Yaw is this or that? And so what, should we tell Otumfuo to take the job away from him or what?”, he queried.
Nana Kwame insisted that Nana Yaw is the CEO of Asante Kotoko and that they as supporters are fully content with him and will support him to succeed in all he’ll do. He further questioned where Esme Mends had been when Nana Yaw Amponsah wanted to be the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and went ahead to unsuccessfully contest the elections for the GFA presidential seat. Nana Kwame implied that the former Accra Hearts of Oak star is merely jealous of the fact that Nana Yaw Amponsah has joined the Kumasi based side.
“He is the Asante Kotoko CEO, we will support him with our all. He will succeed for us. Nana Yaw had even wanted to become the Ghana Football Association president, where was he (Esme), was Esme Mends not in the world, didn’t he hear Nanan Yaw wanted to become GFA president? He couldn’t see at that time to tell football people that Nana Yaw is not an honest person and should not be voted for? Why this time that he in to serve as Kotoko CEO that he is bringing this issue? For us all we know is Nana Yaw Amponsah has been accepted by Otumfuo when he was presented by the Board, so I will entreat all supporters to treat this issue with all the contempt it deserves”, he stated.
