Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan is at sea as to why he lost the number one position to second choice Kwame Baah, and has challenged coach Maxwell Konadu to “be bold enough to give explanations” why he decided to drop him for Baah.
Annan lost his number one position to Kwame Baah after just four matches into the truncated 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season and the reasons behind coach Maxwell Konadu’s decision to relegate the agile shot-stopper to the bench still baffles the minds of many pundits of the game.
Felix Annan had already scheduled his wedding for January 2020 in November 2019 before the commencement of the 2019/2020 league season which kicked off on December 29, 2019. After 4 matches into the league season, Annan asked for and was granted by the club, permission to wed his long time girlfriend. Upon return, coach Maxwell Konadu decided to maintain Kwame Baah in the post ahead of Annan following the former’s impressive performance in the few matches he had kept the post in Annan’s absence.
In an interview with German based Topical Radio and published by footballmadeinghana.com, Felix Annan insisted that he has no problem with the coach neither has the coach told him that he has a problem with him (Annan), but states that he doesn’t know the reason behind Maxwell Konadu’s decision to bench him. The goalkeeper then challenged the coach to be bold and come out to explain to everyone the reasons for keeping him on the bench.
“I don’t have any problem with him (Maxwell Konadu), no issue at all, he has also not told me he has a problem with me. He is the coach so anything he should be bold enough to give explanations when he is asked”, Annan challenged.
He further stated that the coach is the best person to give explanations to the situation. Annan believes that people are analysing the situation from their own perspectives, but it’s about time Maxwell came out clear whether or not he has a problem with him.
“I will be happy if he tells me in the face that he has a problem with me, but he hasn’t done that as we speak. So whatever it is, He will be the best person to give answers, because people who do their analysis of the situation do it as they see it so he will be the best person to give that explanation”, he insisted.
Captalising on the opportunity given him, Kwame Baah has since kept the post for Asante Kotoko in 10 league matches, recording 5 wins, drawing 4 and losing 1 in the 2019/2020 covid-19 enforced truncated league.
