Contrary to reports that he is on the verge of joining Dawu based Dreams FC, agent of Black Stars striker Shafiu Mumuni has revealed that his client has lost interest playing in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and will soon leave the shores of Ghana for Europe.
The agent, Samuel Ebo Kwaitoo made this known in interaction with Takoradi based West Street TV, where he denied the rumours of his client’s supposed move to Dreams FC.
Media reports had been that the 2019 WAFU tournament top scorer is inches away from joining Dreams FC following the expiration of his contract with Ashantigold SC on July 1, 2020, but his agent has described such reports as false as his client has no motivation to play in the domestic league now.
“I will say to the hearing of all that that rumour (of him joining Dreams FC) is not true. Shafiu is where he is, he’s not moved to any place, I have had lots of conversations with him today (Tuesday). We’ve received a lot of calls from people wanting to know whether he is joining Dreams or not, but we have not received any calls or official request from the club”, Samuel Ebo Kwaitoo told host William Nyanzu Quansah on West Street TV.
Stressing further on available offers for Shafiu, Ebo Kwaitoo disclosed that Accra Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars were the clubs who made official approach for Shafiu’s signature, but negotiations became short lived as they could not offer long term contracts to the said clubs. This is because the player is Europe bound and these local clubs were not interested in short term deal and eventually had the deals called off.
“Hearts of Oak, Kotoko and Aduana all came forward to express interest in signing Shafiu, what we told Hearts and Aduana is that right from January 2020 the boy (Shafiu) said he has lost interest in playing in the Ghana league. Even playing the 2019/2020 league was difficult for him, he has lost interest in the league so he wanted to travel right from January, so whoever came forward that’s what we told them, that unfortunately we cannot give anybody long contract because he will travel during the summer window and until now, whoever came forward; Hearts, Kotoko, Aduana that’s what we told them”, Kwaitoo stated.
He added that the move to Europe for Shafiu is almost a done deal and very soon the player will be leaving.
“Our first option for the boy is Europe and by the grace of God, very soon he will be going to Europe”.
