Premier League giants Aduana Stars are currently in the market scouting for players to augment the current squad, and top on the departmental list is the goalkeeping side where efforts are being made to sign a competitive goalkeeper who will “push” current number one, Joseph Addo “to his limits”.
According to Evans Oppong, Communications Director of the club, their safest pair of hands Joseph Addo is the best goalkeeper in the local league currently and he must make a return to the senior national team, the Black Stars. To him, the club lacks competitive backup goalkeeper who will give Joseph Addo a stiffer opposition in the posts and this must be rectified to aid Addo to work beyond his limits so as to catch the eyes of Black Stars coach CK Akonnor.
Giving statistics of Addo, Evans said the Black Stars posts belong to their short stopper and the club must acquire for him much competition so he earns a return to the senior national team.
“We are looking up to strengthening our goalkeeping department”, Evans Oppong revealed in an exclusive interview with ghanasportspage.com.
“That doesn’t mean we don’t trust Joseph Addo, yes, currently we believe in terms of statistics Joseph Addo is the best goalkeeper currently in Ghana. Because he was in post for almost every minute, every second, every hour in this year’s league. 15 games he was in post for all the matches, he was never substituted, and in terms of statistics he kept 10 clean sheets which was unbelievable in this year’s league, and none of the goalkeepers was able to match him”, he stressed.
Aduana Stars wants to see Addo returning to the Black Stars because they believe that is where he belongs. However, he needs a competitive backup goalkeeper who will push him to do more to achieve the Black Stars return mission.
“We are not having that needed competition for them (the Aduana Stars goalkeepers) and Addo always calls for competition. We want to push Joseph Addo to his limit so that he will go back to the Black Stars, and we can only do this by signing an experienced goalkeeper and that will bring the best out of Joseph Addo”, he explain.
Evans Oppong believes the Black Stars goalkeeping position belongs to Joseph Addo and it’s time for him to reclaim the position from the current number one and third Vice Captain, Richard Ofori.
“We believe Black Stars belongs to him (Joseph Addo) and he must go back again”, he vowed.
