The players of premier league side Ashantigold Sporting Club have been invited by the club to begin camping ahead of their preparation for start of the 2020/2021 CAF Confederation Cup campaign, and the Ghana Premier League (GPL) new season.
This comes after the Government lifted the ban on all contact sporting activities in the country on Sunday, and announced to return of the GPL in late October. All sporting activities were suspended in March this year by the state as a precautionary measure against the spread of the covid-19 disease, but the ban has now been lifted and already waiting Ashantigold SC have as a matter of urgency, called their players for camping.
All first team players reported in camp on Monday, September 21, 2020 for administrative measures and the orientation. Head coach Roberto Landi arrived in the country last Thursday from his holidays in his hometown, Rome, and this will be the first time he is meeting the squad since he returned.
The Obuasi based club organised a mandatory covid-19 test for both players and staff of the club, but are mandated to undertake yet another test for the players and all other staff of the club following the directive from the state.
Coach Roberto Landi will meet the players and engage them on issues to note going into their preparations for the double assignment. As part of their efforts to augment the squad for their continental assignment, Ashantigold has made close to 9 signings and the coach will meet with the squad to familiarise with the new faces too. The club is currently in advanced talks to sign former Asante Kotoko right back Empem Dacosta to strengthen the defence as well.
