Coach CK Akonnor and his charges will hold their first training session today ahead of their friendly games against Mali and Asian side Qatar.
The Black Stars will play against the Eagles of Mali on Friday, October 9, before taking on Qatar three days later, all in the city of Antalya, Turkey. Ghana, four times winners of the Africa Cup of Nations, maintains the objective of lifting the continent’s flagship trophy again for the first time since 1982 in the next edition to be hosted by Cameroon.
Coach CK Akonnor and his technical team will use these two matches as preparatory games ahead of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Sudan, and the journey officially starts today. Akonnor, whose debut as the head coach of the senior national team delayed due to the coronaviurs pandemic, looks forward to do so starting with the friendlies against Mali and Qatar.
The technical team will is expected to begin training with the players who arrived in camp on Sunday ahead of Friday’s game while awaiting the arrival of those who featured for their respective clubs over the weekend today.
Black Stars currently sit at the summit of the 2021 AFCON qualifying table with 6 points, having won their first two matches against South Africa and São Tomé and Príncipe under the then coach James Kwasi Appiah with CK Akonnor then as assistant.
