Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Sarfo Oduro, simply known within the football circles as Oduro Sarfo, has resigned from his position as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of premier league club Berekum Chelsea Football Club.
The decision comes just 24 hours after the club issued a statement to distance itself from spiteful comments made by the then club CEO in a media interview granted on Monday, November 23, 2020. In the said interview with Accra based Angel FM, Oduro Sarfo was responding to a question about the poor state of the Gold City Park pitch, which is the ground that hosts home matches for his club, Berekum Chelsea.
The brown looking pitch produced poor pictures during the live coverage of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL) Match Day Two fixture between Asante Kotoko and Chelsea at the said venue, resulting in lots of lambasting by viewers of the game. In his response to the question, the veteran football administrator did not look charitable with is words directed at both the interviewer and stakeholders of the game, casting a slur on the image of his club and to some extent, his integrity as an Executive Council member of the GFA.
Subsequently, Berekum Chelsea Football Club failed to stand with their CEO, and issued a statement on Tuesday, November 24 to distance themselves from the comments made by him, saying, the comments were largely his and do not in any way, represent that of the club”.
Logically, Oduro Sarfo was not happy with the move and has resigned from his position at the club, citing personal reasons.
“This is to inform the sporting world and the Ghana Football Association that I have resigned as the Chief Executive Officer of the above mentioned club”, a statement signed by Oduro Sarfo stated in reference to Berekum Chelsea. “We have sojourned on to this day, which we have to painfully part company, my reasons are personal”, the statement added.
