Ghana Premier League Giants Asante Kotoko has written to the Ghana Football Association and copied the Club Licensing Board requesting a venue change to Tamale instead of Accra Sports Stadium as their home grounds.
According to information pieced together by ghanasportspage.com, the team will move to Tamale immediately after their request is approved, and use the Tamale Sports Stadium for the league and the Champions League matches until the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi is ready.
It is not certain why the sudden change but believed Management and the technical team took the decision because of congestion at the Accra Sports Stadium and how fixtures of the club were arranged by the FA.
Moving to Tamale will enable the players to have enough rest as full-time residential camping has been arranged by the Fabulous club. Asante Kotoko has so far played a league match at the Accra Sports Stadium, drawing against Eleven Wonders.
Kotoko however is expected to play the CAF Champions League return encounter against Nouadhibou of Mauritania in Accra, before finally switching fully to Tamale.
Asante Kotoko has a large supporting base in the Northern Region, using it to their advantage in the 2017 MTN FA Cup Final. Kotoko whipped Accra Hearts Of Oak 3-1 in that match which relaunched the Porcupine Warriors unto the Continental championship.
The club has also sent a request to CAF, to change their CAF Champions League matches to Tamale Sports Stadium. It will be recalled that Kotoko chose the Tamale Stadium as their second venue for the Champions League Matches.
According to our close source, their next GPL home match against Accra Great Olympics will be played at the Tamale Sports Stadium.
