Member of Parliament for Yagaba Kubore has been appointed Sports Minister designate, and will replace current Sports Minister Honourable Isaac Asiamah as the new minister for the sector.
Mustapha Yussif, the former Executive Secretary of the National Service Scheme (NSS) has been nominated by President Akufo-Addo as the Minister of Youth and Sports, subject to appointment committee’s approval after vetting.
His appointment was confirmed on Thursday in a statement from the Presidency on the list of ministerial appointments for the new government under the second term of President Akufo Addo.
Yusif’s exploits at the National Service secretariat carved a nitche for himself and that has now earned him elevation onto the ministerial position of a ministry considered to be one of the hottest ministries in Ghana’s governance.
During his tenure at the NSS, the NSS, in line with government’s digitisation agenda deployed a paperless registration system which cured the controversies that usually characterise registration by NSS personnel. The NSS as well moved introduced certificate issuance via online. Payment of allowances of NSS personnel was more prompt and pleasing.
His appointment to serve in the Sports Ministry is expected to yield results and serve as a turning point for Ghana’s trophy drought at senior national team level.
