Ashanti Gold Sporting Club have been dealt a big blow as their dependable midfield enforcer Appiah McCarthy has been ruled of the club’s regional derby against against Asante Kotoko in match day 11 fixture of the ongoing Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The Miners will host their regional rivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the Obuasi Len Clay sports stadium in the GPL. However, coach Milovan Cirkovic will have to do without his standout star who picked up an injury in their 5-2 defeat to Legon Cities in match week 10 fixture on Friday.
Appiah McCarthy suffered a knee injury during their 5-2 humiliating loss to Legon Cities in the 30th minute in the second half of the game, and was replaced with Walid Fuseini.
The club has sent the player to Kumasi for further checks on his situation with the team doctor to ascertain the extent of his injury. A scan would be carried out on him today to establish the extent of the severity of the injury, but ghanasportspage.com has been told his condition clearly makes it impossible for him to feature in the game against Asante Kotoko next week Sunday.
“We have sent him to Kumasi for scan, as to what type of injury exactly he suffered, that would be established after the scan. The scan will be done today (January 23, 2021) but obviously, he cannot play the game against Kotoko”, Eric Bioh, Administrative Manager for the club told ghanasportspage.com in an interview.
Ashanti Gold Sporting club won only one in their last three premier league matches, and the game against the Porcupine Warriors is a must win for them. The absence of McCarthy leaves coach Milovan sweating as he prepares to face Asante Kotoko who have been on the rise in the recent league matches.
